Giving Back Dinner Cheque Presentation

The National Club held the formal cheque presentation this week for September's Giving Back Gala in support of world micro-finance charity Opportunity International Canada, which provides education, micro-loans and entrepreneurial support primarily to women in the developing world. Thanks to the generosity of National Club members, sponsors and a matching donor we raised a total of almost $120,000 for their life-changing work, which is a record amount for The National Club.

Here we are at the cheque presentation with Opportunity International Canada's President Dale Patterson and Jannalee Anderson, VP Business Development.

$120,000 Raised By The National Club For Charity

Past President and evening host Stephen Lautens
with Opportunity International President
Dale Patterson and wife Joan.
Last week's "Giving Back" charity gala was an outstanding success. The gala was in support of Opportunity International Canada, a micro-finance charity that works with women entrepreneurs in the third word helping them break the cycle of poverty by giving them the tools, funds and training to succeed.

With the generous support and participation of National Club members and our sponsors and contributors - and with a matching donor - this year's Giving Back gala raised approximately $90,000 for Opportunity International. Together with the fundraising golf tournament held earlier this year, the National Club raised a total of approximately $120,000 for Opportunity International - a new record for The National Club.

Since it was begun seven years ago, The National Club's Giving Back program has raised and donated approximately $450,000 for charities.

$71,000 Cheque Presented To The National Club's 2013 Charity - Wounded Warriors Canada

National Club Past President Lee Fisher presenting a cheque for $71,000 to
Wounded Warrior Canada organizers Scott Maxwell and Derrick Gleed

This year's annual Club Giving Back event was to benefit Wounded Warriors Canada, a non-profit organization that helps Canadian Forces members – be they full time or reservists – who have been wounded or injured in their service to Canada.

At the Club gala dinner on May 9th and our annual golf tournament we raised over $71,000 for Wounded Warriors Canada. The cheque presentation was yesterday at a luncheon with Wounded Warrior organizers Scott Maxwell and Derrick Gleed. Wounded Warriors presented Past President Lee Fisher with a scroll of appreciation for herself as event chair as well as The National Club.

Through a wide range or programs and services, Wounded Warriors Canada helps find solutions where gaps have left Canadian soldiers in need. Their primary focus is on mental health and the impact of post-traumatic stress, but helps any veteran in need as they make the transition to civilian life.

Since the National Club began our Giving Back charitable project, we have raised and donated over $228,000 from our members and partners.
